I want to make our lifestyle and our home more sustainable, but we’re hampered by the cost of converting to solar, changing appliances etc. The will is there, just not the means yet.
Well, a very helpful chickadee left details on the forum I frequent about the Federal Government’s Green Loan Scheme and I thought I’d pass the info on. Basically this is an interest free loan of up to $10,000 over 4 years to assist Australian homeowners to install solar, water saving and energy efficient products.
Conditions of course apply, so check out the website for details and to check whether you’re eligible.
Basically, an assessor comes to your home to give recommendations as to what you could do to improve energy efficiency. Then it’s up to you to decide which, if any, of the recommendations you want to take up, get some quotes, and meet the lending criteria of the participation financial institutions (and of course, pay off the debt!)
If there are government rebates available, like in the case of installing solar hot water, then these still apply as well as any REC’s (Renewable Energy Certificates). Depending on where you live, you may also be eligible for state and local council rebates.
