So, 7 things about me…

  1. I’m not quite 30 (next year).
  2. I enjoy doing crafts of all kinds, but my favourite is patchwork quilting. I prefer to hand sew, so some quilts take a couple of years to complete. It’s a proud moment to be able to sleep under a bedspread that you hand stitched yourself. I’ve recently discovered card making and scrapbooking – still trying to find a cheap way to do all these hobbies.
  3. I love to read. In high school I used to ‘wag’ school (particularly maths), just so I could read. Either that, or I hid books under the table so I could read without the teacher noticing. While I read anything and everything, my favourite is Thomas Hardy. I also like to cook.
  4. When I did my arts degree at Uni, I also studied to be a high school English/History teacher. My first experience teaching in a classroom convinced me that being in a room with 30 teenagers all day everyday was akin to hell on earth. I went on to do accounting instead.
  5. Some kids want to be firemen, other want to be hairdressers, as kid I wanted to be a hermit when I “grew up”. The idea of living in a cabin in the bush, growing my own vegies, having chooks and a cow and a few sheep, spending the day spinning wool and knitting, sewing, baking my own bread – my idea of heaven. I loved the BBC show “The Simple Life.” As an adult, my life is far, far from that ideal, but I still want to live that life…when I grow up.
  6. I also wanted to be a writer. When my year six teacher (the aptly named Mrs Warfield) asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, she promptly told me that I could never be a writer because I wasn’t good enough. I was 10. I stopped writing.
  7. I’m obsessed by learning new things. I designed this website by myself almost from scratch (sorry if there are a few bugs – still working on it :) ). I taught myself CSS and HTML and used the "starkers” theme which has no styling and minimal HTML and PHP. I built it pretty much line by line to what you see now. Before I started a year ago, I had only just learnt what a blog was and didn’t know anything about URLs, wordpress, ftp…and today I learnt what a meme is!

So, that’s it for me. Now I’m tagging:
